A random talent I can never brag about

Sometimes instead of doing homework I do this. And then to further my procrastination I blog about it. This may not seem like a big time taker-uper, but when your internet goes as slowly as ours this whole process can take a good 20 minutes. I'll take what I can get.

My dodgy eyes at the end are to see if my roommates were watching and if I need to explain myself to them. They weren't, and I didn't. Ok cool.

Breakups

We sell Mike and Ikes in the bookstore. No big deal. Expect for lately I noticed that someone had taken a sharpie to one of the boxes and crossed out Mike's name. Poor Mike.

But the more I walked past the candy counter I began to realize that it wasn't just one box, it turned out each box had either Mike or Ike crossed out, like so:

via
And so I was like, what? Mike and Ike are real people? Are they brothers? Who would name their children Mike and Ike? Asking for it. And for real, these brothers started a candy company and now they are splitting? Is there not something about sibling rivalry in the contract? This has got to be for advertising.

Turns out I was right, but I gotta be honest with you, I think it's the worst thing ever. For one, I noticed this probably like two months ago, and it wasn't until this morning that I finally googled it, and that is only because I needed something to say on this blog of mine.

After some light research I have come to discover that the split is for the purpose of capturing a younger audience. What? You sell candy, you have a young audience. What does this say about the rising generation? Causing drama is the only way to get their attention? Is that what TomKat is doing? Let's be real, when was the last time you saw either of them in the tabloids pre-split? Is the whole world pulling a Paris and Nicole?

The drama behind the break is that mike was dedicating too much time to his music and Ike was obsessed with his graffiti. Which is cool, except for that Mike and Ike aren't actually real people. Turns out no one even knows where the name originated from.

So you're telling me that the company decided to break up imaginary friends, a $15 million ad campaign, just to get the attention of the rising generation? Couldn't you just switch up the box design or ad a new flavor? Maybe throw some commercials on daytime television?

But when it comes down to it I know nothing about advertising or business, so they probably know what they're doing. Who knows, maybe now is the time to invest in some Mike and Ike stock. Sources say they are looking to double their business.

All because of an imaginary breakup. What is this world coming to?

Things I hate:

1) When the waiter says "it's our most popular item on the menu." I'll admit, menus are stressful for me. There are so many choices and places like that cheesecake factory seriously hand you a book. How am I suppose to read all of these descriptions? So I guess in all of my glorified indecisiveness I should relish the moments when the waiter basically makes the decision for me, but instead I find myself overanalyzing the situation like crazy. What does that even mean, the most popular item on the menu? Does that mean that you have 40 regulars who come in once a week and order that same dish because they know how amazing it is, or does it mean that 40 different people come in every week, choose this because of it's great description, and then end up hating it and never coming back. I realize that this second situation is a little ridiculous, but I will never admit that it is completely ridiculous.

2) People who don't smile back. Like, what's your issue? I found the time in my day to smile at you as we passed, did returning the favor not fit in your schedule?

3) People who look at the drinking fountain or another equally uninteresting object to avoid making eye contact. We've all been there. You're the only two people walking down the hall and you're not sure when the appropriate time to make eye contact is. It's fine to feel awkward about it, but you don't have to pretend to be interested in the cinderblock wall. For the love, this is the 21st century, pretend you're playing angry birds.

4) First dates that involve swimsuits. Right. Like I can't see straight through that.

5) The way the world treats Jack Bauer. What? No one cares about 24 anymore? This is so last season? Whatever, I'm still not over it. "Hey Jack, it's been a while. I know we sold you to the Chinese government so they could imprison you and treat you like a rabid animal. I know we had to tell your daughter/the general population of the world that you were dead. Sorry about all of that. But we bought you back now, and for a hefty price. Don't worry, you were worth every penny because you are now going to be shot and killed by a terrorist and it will prevent this nation from becoming corrupt. We can't tell anyone about this, we will deny that it happened, all evidence will be burned, and your name will never be remembered as that of a hero." There's gotta be a point when being a hero goes to far.

My Life Is Average

Today I was sitting at a red light and a car pulled up next to me. Their music was up really loud and kind of getting on my nerves. As I sat there listening, I realized it was 'The Imperial March.' I looked over to see Darth Vader staring me down from the passenger seat. We stared at each other, I in awe, for about 20 seconds until the light changed. The car sped away as Darth held a red lightsaber out the window. I must find these people. MLIA.

Today I was sitting outside of Starbucks. A teenage girl walked by wearing a T-shirt reading "Bite Me. (Vampires Only)." I then see a nine-year-old girl walk up to this teenager, bite her arm, and say "Harry Potter pwns," and then walk away. Her mother then told her, "Good job, sweetie."

Today, I went grocery shopping with my dad. We realized we forgot to get something in an aisle we had just passed. We pretended to rewind ourselves and made sound effects. People clapped. MLIA

Today, in church, I was sitting next to a little boy who is 4 years old. Hi family speaks spanish, so he never talks to people at church. During the service, he tapped my knee, rolled up his pant leg, and pointed to his spiderman suit under his clothes. After rolling his pant leg back down, he put his finger to his lips and continued watching the service. New favorite kid? I think so. MLIA

Today, I was at Target buying footy pajamas for my school's pajama day. In line in front of me were two girls that go to school with me and were buying the usual, very revealing nightdresses. When they saw what I was buying, they made fun of me very loudly, causing the hot cashier to notice. When I got to the register, he gave me a high five and his number. I win. MLIA

Today, I recieved a phone call at 11:11. The caller told me to look outside, then hung up. Someone had raked all of the pinecones in my front yard into letters to spell out MAKE A WISH. My house number is 1111. Thank you mysterious stranger. You just made my day. MLIA.

Last night, I fell asleep with the TV on. At 4 am I woke up, only to see a giant Curious George reporting the weather. Now I wonder if the Newspeople have this much fun EVERY night. MLIA.

Today, I was babysitting a two year old girl. We were playing with her toy trains, and she told me that she had a nightmare last night. I asked her what it was about. She looked up at me with wide, serious eyes and whispered "Asparagus". MLIA.

Today, I was looking at a rack of clearance shoes at the mall. One box said "110% off" "sale price -$0.03" I grabbed the box and took them to the front to point out the mistake. The lady at the register scanned the box and then proceeded to hand me 3 pennies, my receipt, and the shoes. I just got paid to buy shoes. MLIA

Today I decided to mess with the operators of a text question answering service. I texted, "Where can I hide the bodies?" They texted back, "Find the closest river, wait until nightfall." MLIA

Today, my DA called everyone in my dorm down to the lobby at 3am. I thought we were in trouble, until I saw a giant twister mat. Better yet, underneath the twister mat was epic amounts of bubble wrap. I love college.

Today, I found an old report card from when I was in the 2nd grade. My teacher wrote about how I was a normal student...except for my desire to be a cloud when I got older. MLIA.

Today, I went in for knee surgery. While they were wheeling in my hospital bed, I saw 6 assistants and the surgeon singing the power rangers theme song while in a huddle. I was no longer worried about anything. MLIA

Today, I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom, when my younger brother runs up to the door and shoots me with his imaginary gun. I play along and fall down, I layed there for a few minutes, when my brother comes back and gives me a weird look. He grabbed my arms and dragged me off, when he saw my mom, she asked what he was doing and he replied with "Im disposing of the evidence." MLIA.

Today, I was singing in my room. I noticed birds were flying around a tree and tweeting happily through my open window. This made me wonder if I'm secretly a Disney princess. That thought disturbed me a little, as I'm a guy. MLIA

I bought a pair of black "nerd glasses". I decided to wear them around my college campus. A guy wearing a button down shirt and "nerd glasses" ran up to me screaming "Lois Lane where have you been? I've looked all over for you!" He then took off his glasses and unbuttoned his shirt revealing a superman t-shirt underneath. Needless to say Lois Lane and Clark Kent are going out on friday night. MLIA

Today, I asked my teacher when we were getting our Biology tests back because I was really anxious to see what I got. She proceeded to tell me It won't be for a while because her and her husband are in an intense Mario kart competition and she doesn't have time. I can deal with that. MLIA.

Cereal inspired thoughts

This morning has been a good one. I woke up around 7:30, and just chilled in bed for about an hour and a half. Lazy? No. Productive. Well, sort of. I pulled out my laptop and played around for the majority of the time. I started by renting The Secret Life of Bees on iTunes, and I shall watch it when I get back from work! I then proceeded to surf the BYU website. I made my second housing payment, and searched for the early move in information. I know that I found it at one point, but I am convinced that it has been removed.

After I decided to actually get out of bed and do something, I decided to eat breakfast. There was a short debate between Special-K and Grape Nuts, but Grape Nuts won out. I was sitting on the red stool enjoying my breakfast when I noticed a web-site on the back of the box. I looked at it for a minute wondering how many hits www.postcereal.com gets a day. I cannot imagine that it is a very high number. In fact, I cannot think of one reason to visit this website. So I've decided that we should make the people at Post's day. Lets all of us click on the link above, and give them the most hits they've ever had in one day.

The other cereal inspired thought I had was actually a memory. I was once surfing the web when I came across this blog. The post that interested me at the time was this one, but the one that came to mind this morning was this.

Well, as thrilling as this has been, I must get ready for work. I turn in my two weeks today, something quite sad yet somewhat exciting.

Roses are red

violets are blue, I'm moving out, how about you?

...and that is why I am not a poet.

I do believe that it is time for a trip to the craft store. There are just one to many things on the list to make this that I do not have.

Over the course of my long life, there have been two things which I find myself pondering often. First, my wedding day. Everything from the flowers, to the colors, to the reception set up, to the dress and last but not least, to the groom. My most recent color theme thoughts are turquoise and light pink. Don't scoff, and please do not google image turquoise and pink...because the results are not pretty. However, the image in my mind is beautiful.

The second thing I find myself thinking about it dorm rooms. This started around 4th grade when Emily and Elizabeth made me into an only child by heading off to BYU. I remember Cory's bed had so many pictures, it was so fun. I would rest (note my clever way of avoiding the word lay/lie) on my bed at night and think about my dorm room and my roommates. At the time I thought the perfect roommates would be RAP, Becca, Brittany, Tawni, and Hailey. Wow, times change.

Anyway, I have always pictured bright, lively, colorful scenes involving PB teen accessories and fun posters. (somewhere in my mind there is also a picture of girls wearing bright polka-dot pj's and painting their toe nails, not sure where that mental picture comes from...) In fact, my first thought after finding out where I would be living next year was, well, horror. I didn't want helaman, I wanted heritage! However, after I got over the horror and just accepted it, my first thought was what I could get that would match my bed spread and bring in mucho amounts of color. Ever since that time I have been spending my spare moments looking online for fun things to decorate with. I have spent so much time doing this, in fact, that my bookmarks toolbar has an entire 'dorm' bookmark.

So yesterday when my mother and I went birthday shopping it was an odd experience. This year everything on my list is dorm-related, and it was very odd to finally be buying the items I have been dreaming about for so long. It definitely made the whole prospect of moving out seem more real.

And now I must go do homework. Dad and Dan are in Canada this week, so mom and I are watching Pride and Prejudice. We watched half last night, and are going to finish tonight. Tomorrow, you see, is my last night as a kid. I am not sure yet how I am going to spend this monumental night, but I am going to have to make it big.

The random happenings of my life

Today is the day we've all been waiting for. TAYLOR SWIFT IS IN CONCERT!!!!! This is pretty big. I feel like my life up to this point has been one big preparation time. I don't even know what to do with myself after it ends. If you're interested in seeing a video of how her tour has been going to far, click here.

In other news, I have another time waster!! I should consider renaming my blog "www.needentertainment.blogspot.com" Anyway, next time you're sitting around waiting for the best concert ever to start and need a pass time, just go here.

Example:

Can you tell who I'm morphed with? If anyone can guess, I will be amazed. Shocked. Stunned by your brilliance. Unless you are Polly. I am pretty sure Polly is the only person who could guess. And maybe Tori. But Tori does not read this blog, so she doesn't count.

This Thursday is graduation. My fellow class mates will walk through the ceremonious 'O' while wearing beautiful blue caps and gowns. I, on the other hand, will be sitting in the audience cheering them on and finding ways to keep myself entertained during the speeches. Wish me luck.

The whole Sadie's-not-graduating situation is odd to me. Last year and the year before I was feeling bad that I wasn't graduating, and seriously considered doing packets to make up the 15 credits that I am missing. This year, however, I am not feeling the need to graduate at all. The only part that I feel bad about is the fact that all of my friends will be wearing caps and gowns in the pictures and I’ll be wearing a casual dress…I guess I could go to a costume store? But I am attending the senior all-nighter, which is actually kind of exciting.

Anyway, nothing else interesting has happened in the life of me, so I am going to go start on my June writing class. Oh what fun.

Let's start a company

So I originally titled this post "Just to have some fun." However, I had to re-spell the word "fun" four times to get it right. I felt so pathetic that I had to change the name.

So sometimes you are bored. So you go out and buys Sims2 Double Deluxe to entertain you. Then you sit there at your computer wondering what to do when it installs. So you look at Jessica's Jones' blog. This is what I was doing a few minutes ago.

I have never really had the urge to start my own company. I do sign all of my cards/craft projects in general with "sadie loraine designs" but I'm not planning on starting a business. However, i am reconsidering. While looking at How About Orange, I came across this. Somehow having the name "Golden Kangaroo Productions" thrown at me makes me think I should have my own company simply so I can have such an awesome name.

I like music

Tis true. If you like music as well, you should listen to this. Even if you do not like music, you should listen to it anyway, maybe it will change your mind.

Whats in a name?

Yay for another time waster :) This find probably the funnest name site ever.

Just in case you were wondering...
Sadie was originally used as a nickname for Sara, which means "princess." Comedian/actor Adam Sandler has a daughter named Sadie Madison.

By Googleing my name I found out that I have a Recording, Editing & Mixing business, I'm a belly dancer, I have a magazine, and an Island. Or maybe just a hotel on the island, I'm not actually sure. Oh! Got it! I have a hotel line :) Never mind, no Island. False alarm.

The coolest part? I could get stamps with my name on them.

So Check it out, it's actually quite fun!

Handmade

Oh my beautiful. Thanks to How About Orange for this one. I honestly love this site. It's like Ebay, but cute! Everything is handmade. Check it out!!!

If you're going to waste time....

You might as well have fun doing it :)

This has proven to be one of the biggest wastes of time ever.

I love it.
