-The other night at dinner my nephew was telling me that he and some of his friends are testing the awkward silence theory. They are seeing if the natural pause in conversation differs with group size, gender, age, and number of sub-conversations. I have wondered these questions on numerous occasions.
-While taking a family picture, my niece said they should all be holding mugs so it would be a mug shot.
-I walked in the back door to my house earlier today and the first thing my brother said was "do you want plain cheese pizza? Cause we're running into some logistic problems." Only in my family would you hear the words "pizza" and "logistics" in one thought.
-My nephew was watching the 4th Harry Potter movie and he came up with a way around Dumbledore's age line. Couldn't they just levitate their papers into the goblet? Who knew a love for Harry Potter was genetic, even through adoption?
-I called my dad asking for help filling out a resume. He reminded me that post-surgery I would have to spend 1-2 weeks minimum in bed. I kinda freaked out a little. Two weeks in bed? What was I going to do? "Cry." That was my dad's answer. Thank you father for reminding me of the harsh reality of A)surgery and B) our family's tendency for bluntness.
-The other day I (jokingly) told Mike, the soon-to-be-newest member of my family, that I understood coming into this family would be hard as I would be placed in a position of authority over him though I am younger. I told him that I thought the most effective way to make this into a smooth transition was for him to call me Aunt Sadie. He replied by thanking me for clarifying that. He confided in me that he had not been able to sleep the night before because he had been trying to figure out what to address me as. Sadie? Aunt Sadie? Auntie? Yes, Mike will fit in just fine with his understanding of our Crookston humor.
There have been other such moments, though none are coming to mind at the moment :)
