100

This was going to be my "I" in the gratitude blogging, but then I realized that this is my 100th blog post, something that requires a party. I am not exactly sure what kind of party to have, seeing as finals are next week and no one is really feeling up to anything but going to the library. So I thought back to elementary school, when, on the 100th day of school, you do fun things. However, I couldn't actually think of anything fun that we had done. In 3rd grade, Mrs. Carter had us count to 100by tens, the epitome of exciting. In 6th grade, we played steal the flag with Mr. Salmon's class, and in my 7th grade science class we made a countdown to the end of school. Then, of course, there is the infamous kindergarten 100th day of school activity. Our teacher handed each of us a piece of paper with 100 bumble bees on it, and we were to color all of them. After the first few, seeing the yellow and black became quite boring, and the girl next to me and I decided to start coloring them pink, purple, and blue. This was short lived. Our student teacher walked past our desks, saw our brightly colored bumble bees, and inquired, "Girls, what color are bumble bees?" We replied that bees are yellow and black. She told us that was correct, and asked why, then, were we not coloring them the correct color? After explaining our boredom with the color yellow, she told us that we were to color the bees as they would be in real life. So she took away our papers, and told us to start over with a blank sheet. I still wish that I would've refused to color all my bees yellow, that I would have had the nerve to put up a fight. However, I haven't changed much. Deep down I know that if, one of these first days, I was placed in this same situation, I would not have the nerve to color the bees the color I want, but instead I would do as the person giving me the paper told me. Kinda sad, if you think about it. From K through 12 I haven't progressed in the "stand up for yourself" category. Ah well, luckily I no longer feel that passionately about the color of my bees.

Ok, well this has become a rambling like none other, so I'm going to call it quits. Happy 100th blog post to me :)
