poor kids

There is a boy in my tap class who is selling starving student cards for thirty dollars. Thirty dollars? Really? I informed him that I am too poor to afford a starving student card. Another girl in my class informed him that a true starving student is someone who digs through their backpack searching for three pennies so they can pay for an envelope. Touché.

After this conversation in class I have been noticing things I do to save on cash, and today, Sarah and I realized we have officially hit the 'scrounging' level. The other night we went to Legends for napkins. We now keep them on the fridge right next to the tinfoil I stole from my parents... sorry mom. For dinner tonight Sarah made a sandwich from peanut butter and pizza crust, the only bread in the room. This morning, after pouring the milk on our cereal, we discovered that the only cutlery we had were knives and forks. We now know that eating cereal with a fork is entirely possible. A few days ago I put mustard on bread, thinking we had some turkey in the fridge. We did not. We did, however, have some string cheese. So I strung that cheese and ate that sandwich. I would not recommend it to anyone.

While these sort of things might not necessarily put us on a homeless level, they definitely make me wonder about the starving student cards. I realize that if I was going to do everything in the book that buying it would save me money, but what kind of college kid has the money to do that many social activities?? Ah well, maybe one day I will have the joy of knowing what what it is like to have money to throw down for frivolous things like bowling games and Mexican food.

  2. I love, Love, LOVE this post! It's SOOOOO true!

And FYI, you get a free bowling game each semester... In case you wanted to do SOMETHING social at some point in your college career.
